What are Instagram Templates?

Instagram Templates are a form of social media graphics made especially for the platform. They are a great resource for business owners as they can be created to suit your business or brand, making it easier for you to keep consistent with your branding online. 

For example, you can create a template to match your brand colours, include your business name or logo and add your website. You can also have graphics included , patterns and textures that represent your brand. 

There are mainly two different types of templates you can get for instagram, one to use for your Instagram posts and another for your stories. They are sized correctly for the platform so they will fit perfectly on your feed or stories.

Well-known brands are using social media templates right now. This shows that they are very effective to use, on-trend and great for branding on social media.

Facebook launched their very own free templates to help business owners during the pandemic.

The above template is great for business owners to use when they want to show their customers that they are still taking orders. You could use this post and let your customers know the best way to order from you. 

Pictured above, this template can be used to let your customers know that your products and services are available online. Be sure to include links on where the customer can purchase your products if you decide to use this template. 

If you would like support during this situation for your business, then the above template is great to share with your customers to highlight this. This could be support in general or maybe you are doing a fundraiser.

Why should I use an Instagram Template for Business?

An Instagram template can be used to advertise your business and contain your brand name, colours and website address. 

If you use a blank instagram template, it can be edited by using apps like Canva to add your own text. This means that the template can be re-used, so your feed will stay consistent with your brand.

If you are promoting products, then this helps show your clients how well your products work and the actual results they can get from it. Bonus Tip: Use your own photographs as results or a clients results. Google images can be edited and not realistic, also its sometimes obvious to the person when you are not posting real results. Mistakes You’re Making in Your Online Business and How to Fix Them.

Hello,

I’m back with some online business training and Today I will be sharing the TOP mistakes I see being made when it comes to online business and how you can fix them. Or if you are looking at starting an online business then this should help you.

If you’ve made any of these listed, please don’t feel like it’s a direct aim at yourself and your business. I’ve made mistakes with my online business myself and we need to remember this is a learning curve.

So, let’s dig in with the Online Business Training and spill the tea..

Mistake 1: You are constantly talking about your products or services

The one biggest mistake I see people making in their online business is that they are constantly advertising their products and services.  Every post is put out to try and generate sales. 

Now, I understand that we all want to make sales in our business, but constantly posting adverts isn’t the best way to go about it. 

Think about it, if you connected with someone yourself, and all they did was constantly keep posting about their products or services and trying to sell to you, would you actually WANT to buy from them? 

Build Relationships Instead

The first thing we can do to try and tackle this is by building relationships.  This will help people decide if they can get to know, like and trust you as a business owner.

How do we go about this? Well you can ask your audience what they’d like to see and what they want to hear from you. 

If you’re a service provider then you specialise in one main area, however this can be broken up into lots of different topics.

For example, if you were a Hairdresser then that would be your main area that you specialise in. 

However, Hairdressing can be broken up into different topics such as:

  • Cutting Hair
  • Styling Hair
  • Hair Care
  • Colouring Hair
  • Washing Hair

From the list above, these are areas your clients would be interested in knowing more about. If I was in touch with a hairdresser and they were going to show me how to style my hair easily and still make it look professional, I’d definitely want to know about that. 

Think about how you can share what you provide as a service or what products you provide and what topics it can be broken up to, then ask your audience what topic they’d like to know more about. Or, use the topics of interest and create content about them to share with your audience.

You can ask your audience via blogs, create a poll, make videos, put them on your social media stories. However you want to ask them is fine.

Another way to ask these questions is maybe visit forums or go on social media and find groups of interest, maybe a business orientated group and ask those people for their help and suggestions on what they want to see more of. 

Mistake 2: You aren’t telling people about your products or services at all.

People need to be clear about why you are providing them value and what you have to offer. The flip side of mistake number one is that there are people who are constantly sharing value to their ideal clients BUT they’re not telling them about their products and services, what to expect from them and they are too afraid to sell.

You shouldn’t be literally giving away everything for free and selling is a service. You should make it very clear on what you provide and how people can purchase this if you want success in your online business. 

Have a good ratio of value based posts and posts regarding your products and services.

You can still make sure to help your audience and share value, but make sure you’re also dropping in about your own products and services by mixing up your content.

You can break this up by telling people the benefits / results and reasons why they need this product or service and also do a direct sale post telling them exactly what the product or service is and where they can purchase it.

Mixing your content up means that you can decide on how many value based posts you are going to produce and how many posts you are going to create based on your products or services. 

Some people suggest every 5th post to be based on sales in some way and others say every 3rd post to be indirectly based to your sales and every 10th post to be a direct sales post. Decide on what you’d like to do and what suits you best.

Mistake 3: You are not solving problems.

If you want to make sales online, you should be telling people what problem your product or service is going to solve and how it can help them. People want to know why they should invest in the product, what benefits they will get from it and how it’s going to make a difference.

For example, if you were selling shoes then you would firstly want to decide on who they would be most suitable for. If it was a sports type of shoe, then it would be for someone who maybe enjoys exercise , the outdoors and leisure. 

So how could a sports shoe solve a problem for this type of person? Well it could help them because it suits their lifestyle.

Another problem it could solve for this person is that maybe the shoe is comfortable and breathable, making it perfect for them because they can go walking, running and so on without having to worry about getting really sweaty feet (ew) and it increases their performance because its breathable and easy to run in versus a heavy shoe.

Now if you were selling heels, it would be a completely different scenario. A women may be more than likely to purchase these heels, but why should they buy it? 

For this scenario, the heels could make her feel more confident. The heels could transform her look and really add something to an outfit. The heels would be perfect for a night out with the girls or going on a date night. These are all examples of how you can solve a problem for someone and help them with your product or service. 

Mistake 4: You are not sharing much about yourself to your audience.

There are tons of other people online who could be in the same area as you in business.  This is competition, and the best way to do this is share more about YOU.

Everyone is unique and that really helps people get to know who you are personally, it really helps them get to know you and see if they like you and can trust you.

Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, share your passion, values and beliefs. 

Sharing these personal things about ourselves means that we are promoting our own perspective on the world which is very unique to us and others as it is how we view the world and feel about different things.

It also gives our audience a common ground, this can help us attract the right people to us as if they share similar views , values and beliefs then you have more chance of relating to people in your business.

Mistake 5: You aren’t engaging with your audience.

Being nice costs nothing. If you want to grow your business then you need to be showing your audience you care about them and value them, even if they’ve never bought from you. Don’t make it all about yourself.

Ways you can do this are to:

  • Ask questions
  • Tell them you appreciate their support
  • Thank them for ordering
  • Shout them out
  • Follow Up: Ask them how they are doing a few days after purchasing and if they’re enjoying the product or have found your service useful.§
  • Ask for advice and opinions
  • Do something to show you value them: Maybe give them a discount or something free with their orders.
  • Have fun: Think of fun ways you can interact and have fun together! 
  • Always be helpful and share your knowledge with them: What tips can you share that will give them a result from it?

  1. How to Tweak your Personal Profile

  • Your Profile Picture

TOP TIP #1: You need to ensure that your profile picture is of yourself!

This is important because if you are networking on Facebook as a business owner, it’s more than likely that someone is going to check your personal profile out. People are nosey and want to see what it is you do, what you look like and who they will be working with.

 By making sure that your picture is of yourself, the person viewing this will have a good idea of exactly who you are and this can also help with your personal branding.

TOP TIP #2: Your Profile Picture should clearly show your face with a non-distracting background

Ensuring that your profile picture can be viewed clearly will make things easier for the person viewing your profile to see who you are.

 If you have a clear background, this will ensure that your photo will stand out. Also, Facebook shrinks your profile picture into a thumbnail view when interacting via your profile, through messages, group pages and so on. 

Therefore, if you have a clear photo of yourself with no distractions, it will still look good as a thumbnail. This way people can still see clearly who you are without it being too complicated.

  • Your Cover Photo

You can use your cover photo to your advantage and have it to advertise yourself or your business. 

This is down to whether you want to use your personal profile as a professional business profile, or if you want it to be more personal.

If you are using the cover photo professionally, you need to make sure it gives the viewer a good idea of what you do as a business and what services/ products you offer. Share value and show the viewer how you can help them.

TOP COVER PHOTO TIP #1: Make sure that your cover photo looks inviting, welcoming and appealing for people to look at. Think of it as your storefront. If you are using images and text, make sure the text is easy to read and that they are good quality images that aren’t blurry.

This is a pet peeve of mine so cue the constructive criticism: Don’t crudely cut a photo of yourself out on an app and pop it on a background…you need to look professional if you want people to take you seriously.

TOP COVER PHOTO TIP #2: Your cover photo should give the viewer a good idea of what you do as a business and not be confusing! Keep it simple.

  • Your Bio

Your ‘Bio’ is basically a small ‘About Me’ section you can fill in so that when people view your profile, they can get to know you more. It’s meant to be short and sweet, but you can definitely utilise this by making it more professional.

TOP BIO TIP: Tell the reader what it is you do in business and how you can help them.

Whether you want to briefly add your job description / niche into your bio, or be more professional, you should definitely include this information in your Bio. So when other people are looking at your profile, they’ll be able to see straight away what it is you do and how you may be able to help them.

To get even more professional, saying how you help people solve a certain problem is a great way to show whoever is looking at your profile what to expect from you. This depends on your choice and whether you want to use your personal profile to collect leads and promote your business or if you’d prefer to use it personally.

2. How to Make Sure Your Facebook Business Page Looks Professional

  • Your Facebook Business Page Name

If you already have a business, then simply naming the page to the same as your business is a good idea. However, if you’re looking to launch a new business and use Facebook to leverage it, then you should really consider this question when naming your business.

  • Does your business name clearly describe what you do and what services or products you provide?
  • If you’ve decided on a business name for other reasons, then you need to make sure your visuals and tagline display your profession clearly.

  • Your Facebook Business Page Profile Picture

TOP TIP #1 For your Business Page Profile Picture: Make Sure that the image gives the reader a good idea of what you do as a business.

Your profile picture for your business page can be a logo, of yourself or an image that best represents your business.

 The goal is to ensure that the person looking at your business page can quickly and easily get a feel for your business and understand what you do as a business owner whether this is a product based or service based business.

  • Your Business Page Cover Photo

As this is your business page, it should definitely be professional and not personal. So you need to make sure that it gives the viewer a good understanding of what you specialise in and how you can help them. Also, follow the same advice given for your personal profile cover photo which I’ll re-iterate here so you don’t have to scroll up.

TOP COVER PHOTO TIP #1: Make sure that your cover photo looks inviting, welcoming and appealing for people to look at. Think of it as your storefront. If you are using images and text, make sure the text is easy to read and that they are good quality images that aren’t blurry.

  • Your Facebook Group Name

Your Facebook Group Name should give the reader a good idea of what your group is about and what to expect from your group.

TOP GROUP TIP: Think of relevant keywords your ideal client may be searching for, can you include this in the group name?

  • Your Facebook Group Cover Photo

Follow the advice given above for your Group Cover Photo. You might also want to make sure your group cover photo displays your group name, especially if it’s different from the name of your business page.

How to Keep Your Visuals On Brand and Consistent

So, now we’ve learnt the elements to making your Facebook more professional for business, it’s worth talking about your branding.

You may want to use the same colour schemes, fonts and the same imagery or similar imagery in your visuals. This will make sure that the overall look of your business is on brand and consistent, so there is familiarity in your branding when users move from your group to your page and so forth. This will also help people become more associated with your visuals and branding.

How to add an Icon to your Instagram Highlights

So today I’m going to share a quick tutorial I have created to guide you through how to add an icon image to your instagram highlights. Be sure to have the icon or colour you’d like to use as your highlight icon ready and saved in your phones image gallery.

  1. Firstly, you need to view your profile and long press on the story that’s in your Highlight section. Choose the story you would like to add an icon to. If you long press on the story, a menu should appear.
  2. Press ‘Edit Highlight’ on the menu.
  3. A menu should appear where you can change the title of the Highlight and Edit the cover. We’re going to press ‘Edit Cover.
  4. In the ‘Edit Cover’ section, you should get a preview of your story that you can re-size to use as an icon and be able to access your image gallery. We’re going to access the image gallery.
  5. Then we are going to choose an image or colour from our image gallery to use as an icon. I’m going to use this cute ice cream icon. If it’s too small, you can pinch the image with your fingers to make it bigger and fit into the circle.
  6. Now we press ‘done’ and you should see the new icon in the circle. Press ‘done’ again.
  7. And we’re finished! If you go to your profile your new instagram highlight icon should appear.

How To Add A Story To Your Instagram Highlights in 2020 (With Pictures)

Hey Cutie,

I’ve made this Mini Tutorial to show you how to add a Story to your Instagram Highlights in 2020. This tutorial was created to help you create a story on Instagram and then add it to the Highlights section.

The cool thing about saving a story to your Highlights is that it saves the story and can be kept on your profile for as long as you like, plus you can also have a highlight for all your different interests to let people get to know you more.

So, Let’s get started!

  1. Firstly, you need to open your instagram account and head over to your profile.
  2. Click on your profile picture, it should display a blue plus sign. 2b. If the above step doesn’t work , try clicking on the home icon and pressing on ‘Your Story’ to access the Editor.
  3. Now you’re in the Story Editor. You can either take photos with your camera, record videos or insert images and videos from your phone gallery.
  4. Once you’ve taken a photo / recorded a video / inserted an image or video and are ready to share this to your stories, press the send to button.
  5. For this tutorial we’re going to share our story to everyone so that whoever visits our profile can see it. This means you just press the ‘Share’ button next to ‘Your Story’.
  6. Now if you go back to your profile and click on your profile picture, your most recent story post should show up. Theres some extra icons at the bottom of the page, you will need to click the love heart icon that says ‘Highlight’ to choose this to be featured in your story highlights.
  7. A menu will ask you if you want to add a new highlight or choose an existing highlight. This is up to you. Think about what category you’d like this Highlight to go in and whether you need to create a new category for it or not. Decide what to call your highlight if it’s going to be a new one.
  8. You should then receive a notification saying that you have added this to your highlights.
  9. You’re done! If you go back to your profile, you should see your story has now been saved to the ‘Highlights Section’.
